Kirtan On Rama : Kausalya Suta

Shri Kancherla Gopanna, also known as Bhakta Ramadasu or Bhadrachala Ramadasu, was a 17th-century Indian saint-poet , born around 1620 CE in Nelakondapalli, Andhra Pradesh. He worked under the King Abul Hassan Tana Shah. Once he visits Bhadrachalam Rama temple, and moved by its dilapidated state, decides to renovate the temple with the revenue collections for the temple without the permission of the king.

When the king comes to know about the construction of the temple, he imprisons  Ramadasu.

After 12 years of imprisonment of His Bhakta, Lord Rama , accompanied by Lakshmana disguised as two young warriors Ramoji and Lakshmoji, enter the bed chamber of Sultan Tana Shah in the middle of the night. They give the Sultan, six lakh gold coins imprinted with Lord Rama’s own seal, as compensation for the six lakhs of silver coins spent on temple construction. They take a written receipt for the money. Later Ramadasu is released from the jail.

The Sultan realises later that the two young men who visited him during the midnight were none other than Lord Rama and Lakshmana. Tana Shah started the tradition of sending pearls and silk robes to Bhadrachalam temple every year on Sri Rama Navami a tradition that is followed by the ruler of the state

 One of Ramadasu's telugu kirtanas - 'Etiruga nanu' in the raga Nadanamakriya is an evergreen melody that has touched many a heart. Inspired by this soulful composition, Sringeri Sharada Peethadhipati Jagadguru Bharati Tirtha Mahasvamigal, has penned the sahitya in Sanskrit for the same.
